An important measure that favors international trade is the recently announced reduction of the AFRMM from 25% to 8%, in the case of long-haul shipping.
The AFRMM is the Additional Freight for the Renewal of the Merchant Marine, a tax import that is levied on the amount of freight charged by shipping companies operating in a Brazilian port.
The amount is destine to compose the Merchant Marine Fund – FMM, whose main objective is to the encourage shipbuilding to improve the waterway cargo transport system.
This measure is already in effect and aims to stimulate international trade, effectively reducing the cost of imports
